Troubleshooting Guide – Unite Startup & Infinite Loading Issues

Unite Startup & Infinite Loading Issues

If 3Shape Unite won't launch, gets stuck on the loading screen, or takes an unusually long time to sign in, this article covers the most common causes and how to fix them.

Symptoms

You may be experiencing this issue if you see:

  • Unite stuck at 36%, 84%, 98%, or 99%
  • An infinite loading screen
  • Unite stuck on "Starting 3Shape Unite"
  • Unite stuck on "Signing In"
  • Unite not opening when launched
  • Unite opening and immediately closing
  • The software becoming unresponsive after entering your PIN
  • Excessively long sign-in times
  • Loading that never completes after an update
  • Unite repeatedly restarting during launch
  • The splash screen remaining visible indefinitely
  • The software getting stuck after a migration or new computer

Before You Start

It helps to know the following before troubleshooting:

  • Is this happening on one workstation or several?
  • Did it start after an update, migration, or repair?
  • Are you able to sign in successfully?
  • Does Unite always stop at the same percentage?
  • Have you restarted the workstation recently?
  • Are there any pending Windows updates?
  • Do you have antivirus or endpoint protection installed?
  • Are all 3Shape services running?
  • Is Cloud Storage enabled and working properly?
  • Does your workstation meet current software requirements?
  • Does the issue happen every time you launch Unite?
  • Was the software working normally before this started?

How to Fix It

1. Basic Restart

  • Close Unite completely.
  • Check Task Manager to confirm no DentalDesktop or Unite processes remain open.
  • Restart your workstation.
  • Launch Unite again.
  • Check whether the issue persists.

2. Check Your Software Version

  • Confirm your installed Unite version.
  • Check for pending Unite updates.
  • Install all available updates.
  • Restart your workstation after updating.
  • Test Unite again.

3. Check System Performance

  • Review your workstation's uptime.
  • Check available disk space.
  • Check RAM usage.
  • Confirm your system has adequate resources available.
  • Close unnecessary applications and background processes.

4. Check 3Shape Services

  • Open Windows Services.
  • Confirm all 3Shape services are running.
  • Restart any stopped or unresponsive services.
  • Relaunch Unite.

5. Run a Repair Installation

If Unite remains stuck during startup:

  • Close Unite.
  • Stop all 3Shape services.
  • Run a Repair Installation.
  • Restart your workstation.
  • Launch Unite again and confirm startup completes.

6. Check Database Integrity

If startup freezes at a specific percentage:

  • Check your local database folders.
  • Look for corrupted database files.
  • Create backups where applicable.
  • Remove or rebuild corrupted database folders following standard procedures.
  • Launch Unite again and check the result.

7. Check Your Graphics Configuration

Many startup and loading issues are related to graphics processing:

  • Confirm your dedicated GPU is recognized.
  • Update your graphics drivers.
  • Confirm the high-performance GPU is selected.
  • Check PhysX or GPU settings, if applicable.
  • Restart your workstation after making changes.

8. Check Windows Components

If the issue continues:

  • Run Windows system integrity checks.
  • Confirm Windows updates completed successfully.
  • Check for corrupted Windows components.
  • Repair system files if needed.
  • Reboot and test Unite again.

9. Check Cloud & Network Dependencies

If Unite gets stuck during sign-in or synchronization:

  • Confirm your internet connection.
  • Verify Cloud Storage is accessible.
  • Test using a mobile hotspot if needed.
  • Check firewall restrictions.
  • Confirm required 3Shape services are reachable.
  • Relaunch Unite after restoring connectivity.

10. Perform a Clean Installation

If startup issues continue after all of the above:

  • Confirm all your data is synced or backed up.
  • Fully uninstall Unite.
  • Remove remaining application files following standard procedures.
  • Install the latest supported version.
  • Sign in again and confirm everything works.

Common Causes

  • A corrupted Unite installation
  • A failed or incomplete software update
  • Corrupted database files
  • Damaged configuration files
  • A sync process blocking startup
  • Excessive workstation uptime
  • Performance issues from resource exhaustion
  • Graphics driver issues
  • Incorrect GPU configuration
  • Corrupted Windows system files
  • Cloud connectivity issues during startup
  • Antivirus or security software interference
  • Conflicts between old and new software versions after a migration

Quick Checklist

  • Restart your workstation and relaunch Unite
  • Run a Repair Installation
  • Install pending Unite updates
  • Update graphics drivers
  • Configure the dedicated GPU correctly
  • Restart 3Shape services
  • Remove or rebuild corrupted database folders
  • Repair Windows system files
  • Check cloud connectivity and sync status
  • Perform a clean installation if corruption is confirmed

Tip: Most startup issues are resolved through a repair installation, a pending software update, a workstation reboot, database cleanup, or a graphics configuration fix. Checking these first will resolve most cases.
