TRIOS Module Missing or Not Working in Unite?

If the TRIOS Module has disappeared from Unite, won't load, or key scanning features are unavailable, this article walks you through the most common causes and how to fix them.

Symptoms

You may be experiencing this issue if you see any of the following:

  • The TRIOS Module is missing from Unite
  • The "Scan Only" option is not available
  • Scanning applications are missing after an update
  • No scanning step appears when creating a case
  • TRIOS settings are unavailable
  • The Analyze page is missing
  • The TRIOS workflow won't load
  • An "Error registering plugin TRIOS" message appears
  • A "TRIOS failed to run" message appears
  • Your scanner can't be connected because TRIOS options are missing
  • The Send button is not available
  • You're unable to create or scan a new case
  • Only limited workflows appear when creating a case
  • TRIOS options disappeared after a software update
Before You Start

A little context helps narrow down the fix faster. Before troubleshooting, it's helpful to know:

  • Is this happening on one workstation or several?
  • Did it start right after a software update?
  • Are all TRIOS-related features missing, or just specific ones?
  • Are you signed in with the correct 3Shape account?
  • Do you know if the correct licenses are assigned to your account?
  • Does this affect every case, or only certain ones?
  • Is your scanner detected by your computer?
  • Have you recently switched to a new computer or 3Shape account?
How to Fix It

1. Check for Software Updates

  • Open the Unite Store.
  • Check for pending updates.
  • Install all available Unite and TRIOS updates.
  • Restart Unite once updates finish.
  • Confirm the TRIOS Module now appears.

2. Confirm the TRIOS Module Is Installed

  • Open the Unite Store.
  • Locate the TRIOS Module.
  • If it isn't installed, install it now.
  • Restart Unite after installation.

3. Verify Your Licensing

  • Confirm you're signed into the correct 3Shape account.
  • Verify your account has the appropriate licenses assigned.
  • Make sure the account belongs to your company (watch out for duplicate accounts under the same company).
  • Confirm your scanner license is active.

4. Check Your Account Configuration

If the issue started after signing in, transferring ownership, or changing accounts:

  • Confirm you're using the correct account.
  • Verify the account contains your scanner licenses.
  • Remove any incorrect accounts, if needed.
  • Sign in again using the account tied to your licenses.
  • Check whether the module now appears.

5. Run a Repair Installation

If the TRIOS Module shows as installed but still won't work:

  • Close Unite completely.
  • Stop all 3Shape services.
  • Run a Repair Installation.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Launch Unite again and check functionality.

6. Test Your Scanner and Workflow

Once the module is back, confirm everything is working correctly:

  • Create a new test case.
  • Verify "Scan Only" appears.
  • Confirm scanning workflows load correctly.
  • Test the Analyze and Send functions.
  • Confirm your scanner connects.
  • Run a test scan.

7. Plugin or Module Errors

If you see "Error registering plugin TRIOS" or a similar message:

  • Confirm all updates are installed.
  • Run a Repair Installation.
  • Confirm your computer meets minimum requirements.
  • Check that your graphics card (GPU) is detected.
  • Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.
  • Reinstall the module if the issue continues.

8. Check Your Hardware and Environment

  • Confirm a supported GPU is detected.
  • Update your graphics drivers.
  • Confirm required Windows services are running.
  • Check that security/antivirus software isn't blocking the module.
  • Confirm your computer meets the minimum TRIOS requirements.
Common Causes
  • Incomplete Unite updates
  • A corrupted TRIOS Module installation
  • A module that failed to deploy during an update
  • A missing TRIOS Module after a software repair
  • Signing in with the wrong 3Shape account
  • Licenses assigned to a different account
  • Scanner licenses not being detected
  • Corrupted module files
  • Graphics driver issues
  • Unsupported hardware
Quick Checklist
  • Install the missing TRIOS Module from the Unite Store
  • Complete all pending Unite updates
  • Run a Repair Installation
  • Restart Unite after updates
  • Verify licensing and account assignment
  • Sign in with the correct licensed account
  • Reinstall the TRIOS Module if needed
  • Update graphics drivers
  • Confirm your workstation meets requirements
  • Restart 3Shape services

Tip: Most TRIOS Module issues come down to an incomplete update, the wrong account being signed in, missing licenses, or a module that didn't finish installing after an upgrade. Checking these first will resolve the majority of cases.
